Formal Courses of Buddhist Study gm w pen

After some 20 years of study with his teacher Khen Rinpoche, Geshe Michael Roach was asked by (mostly laypeople) to teach what he had learned at Sera Mey monastery. These eighteen courses cover what he felt were the most important holy texts and subjects of his geshe studies. They are available for free on the web at acidharma.org and homeworks, quizzes and finals can be mailed in for credit with the Asian Classics Institute. The final three courses review five courses each and must be taken parampara- mouth to ear, from a teacher of the lineage in order to receive credit. They make nice previews of the courses they cover as well. Each class is appoximately 1 1/2-2 hours long, 10 or 11 classes per course. The method of homeworks, quizzes from memory and meditation assignments are to enable the material to penetrate the mind, where it will do the most good! Geshehla says this is how we learn in our culture and it is in keeping with the monastic tradition of learning by listening, contemplating and meditating. There is no charge for Dharma because it's so valuable we could never afford it!

Dharma Essentials lamaji

As an offering to his teacher, Lama Sumati Marut further distilled Geshe Michael Roach's eighteen courses into Dharma Essential-versions. There are generally no homeworks or quizzes and meditation assignments are optional. Classes are informal and encourage discussion and debate. The courses are usually 4 rather than 10 two-hour classes. These recorded courses and more are available for free at lamamarut.org.
